ASHTANGA YOGA
WEDNESDAY 11 AMAshtanga Yoga is the original Vinyasa (movement with breath). It is a healing method of cleansing and toning the for the body, mind and senses. The asanas (poses) are arranged in a time-tested (over 1,000 years!) sequence designed to specifically align the body and strengthen the nervous system. First comes the Sun Salutations, then the Standing Sequence. We then move to the Seated Positions, then end with the Finishing Sequence.
Beyond the asanas, you will learn about the bandhas (energy locks), ujjayai (breath technique), drishti (focus), vinyasa (flow). The beauty of Ashtanga is that there is always “room to grow”... You may find you choose to rest during some poses, and modifications are supported when needed. Change is guaranteed!
SHORT FORM
This is an active 60 minute class, structured on the main poses from the original Ashtanga Primary Series. Focus is on the breath. Poses are held for five breaths and are interconnected with flowing movements. The same sequence is repeated each class, building strength, flexibility and focus… so that eventually your practice becomes a powerful moving meditation!
